Common Sense

Common sense, what is it? Dictionary.com defines common sense as: Sound judgment not based on specialized knowledge. Or, native good judgment. Those definitions are certainly good and definitely make sense. However, I would add the following definition: The ability to filter the information you receive through the knowledge and experience you already possess and make sound judgments accordingly. Here’s an example of what I’m referring to. Joe, “the pants guru”, tells you the best way to put your pants on in the morning, is to stand them up in the corner and jump in feet first. Now, of course, you laugh him out of the room, because your knowledge and experience tells you that pants go on one leg at a time and jumping into them could cause serious bodily harm.See there, common sense in action.I see you thinking out there. Something along these lines. “Okay….that’s real nice, but what does it have to do with internet marketing?”I’m glad you asked. It is very relevant, especially if you are new to internet marketing, or have been unsuccessful up till now. If this describes you, then I’m going to go ahead and let you in on a not so secret secret, your common sense is probably lacking. It’s understandable though, because you don’t have the knowledge or experience to filter all the information out there. When Bob, the internet guru comes along and tells you to be successful online, you need his latest, one-of-a-kind, super sensational ebook or marketing plan. You have no knowledge vault to draw from to help make sound judgments and you could possibly fall for his hype. This happens because, you are wanting to succeed online and to succeed online you need to increase your knowledge base. Ebooks and marketing plans can be a great way to increase your knowledge but, in the process of deciding which one to purchase you can very easily fall victim to marketing hype.Remember? Lack of knowledge and experience coupled with an influx of information , can lead to a lack of common sense. And a lack of common sense can lead to poor decision making, i.e. purchase of an ineffective marketing plan or ebook.Lack of common sense is not a fault, it’s just a fact. A fact that can be changed!
